What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a safe and effective form of natural medicine that assists the body’s innate ability to heal. Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the whole person, not just their list of symptoms or disease label. Homeopathy stimulates a person's own healing power and inspires health at all levels.

Homeopathy was developed by German physician, Dr. Samuel Hahnemman, in the late 1700s. It has an over 200 year history as an effective and scientifically proven form of natural medicine.

Homeopathy is based on the principal "Similia similibus curantur" or "Like Cures Like" that dates back to Hippocrates, the Greek Father of Medicine. Hahnemann took this concept, also known as the "Law of Similars", expanded it and codified it into a system of medicine he called homeopathy, meaning "similar suffering".  What this means is that a substance in nature that will produce symptoms in a healthy individual will be the very same substance that will cure a sick individual exhibiting those exact symptoms.

Hahnemann experimented with medicinal substances on healthy volunteers, called “provers”. He administered small amounts of natural substances to them over a period of time. By  keenly observing and recording the symptoms the provers developed, he was able to procure a clear indication or “proving” of that particular substance. He later found that by diluting the medicinal substance multiple times he could create a remedy that retained its healing properties while acting safely and gently on a sick individual. Additional provings, toxicological data and clinical experience have supplied the homeopathic drug profile of over 2,000 substances.

During a homeopathic interview a person is encouraged to give a detailed and comprehensive account of all the ways in which they suffer: physically, psychologically and emotionally. These individual characteristics will guide the homeopath in selecting the remedy whose materia medica (drug picture) matches the totality of the patient's symptoms. That remedy, known as the similimum will then stimulate their body to heal.
